Managing Expectations

As a professional in HR services, i found that its very important to observe, analyze and understand the environment. If one needs to make impact and introduce change management, one has to have ability to manage expectations. Here is a case to understand this.

A batch of 43 students gets admitted to one of the prestigious institution for HR after rigorous admission procedure.Interesting thing is this, that this time the institute takes students through CAT, which is a national level  entrance test. Seniors make these students to undergo an induction program. By the definition the Induction process 'orients' students and welcome them into newer environment. However the program fails on major grounds resulting in friction between sections from both groups i.e. senior and junior.

It will be useful if we understand situation from both the perspectives. First we describe senior batch initiative and the series of events. Sr.Batch presumes that the Jr.Batch would be much more talented and would be very high on participation, involvement and initiative level. They design assignments and activities which will continue for around 10 days from the first day of classes. These were written assignments, group activities and games, group presentations and selection for different committees which are responsible for Placements, Annual Convention, Student Development, Sports and Discipline. Sr.Batch has a sub group of enthusiastic, passionate and motivated people. They feel themselves responsible for making the new batch to understand the environment of the Institution so that they can face challenges of the place.

Junior Batch is different from Sr. Batch on many grounds. They have majority of female students and also have more representation from people with Work Experience. Since these students were preparing for CAT, their expectation from the Institute is very objective. Also since many of them already had appeared for other B School entrance procedures and many being Engineers, they have descent idea of what kind of attitude is required to make a cut into different kind of assessment activities. Moreover they are from different part of the country and majority of outstation candidates are from tier 2 cities. This lot has worked very hard to get into top 7 percentiles of entire country with roughly 2.5 lac of competition!
The gist is that this Batch is not expecting to get 'coached' by people (because of their limited understanding of an orientation program) with just one more year of exposure as compared to them in the course. Its very important to consider the point that this Batch at the back of their head already feels that they have proved themselves, at least in the initial one week at college.

With this context, Sr.Batch engages the Jr. Batch in the Induction program. The written assignment comes across to Jr. Batch as lengthy and mechanical. They enjoyed group games as they mixed among themselves. Most of the program was not known to Jr. Batch beforehand and they perceived it as unorganized and Sr. Batch said they want to keep the element of surprise. Many activities were successful and both the groups enjoyed it. One of the activity failed miserably when Jr. Batch was asked to solve a case study on HR and make presentation thereafter, the batch does it with a competitive spirit, imagining that this is somewhat pertinent. But when they tried to present they found the Sr. Batch to be not listening and mocking them on their attire and articulation. Sr. Batch later clarified the whole activity to be a learning activity and a stress interview. This very event came across as a nail on the coffin as this event gave rise to false judgments of each other and induced biases. The rift became very clear when it affected the selection process for committee roles.

What went wrong?

How could Induction be done differently to attain a positive outcome?
Is it necessary to resolve the Conflict?
What initiatives Jr. Batch must have taken to resolve the conflict?
Can attitude be changed through a training program?

travesty...

False representations can lead to wrong impressions which in turn can distort the basic understanding of the mind. I am thinking about this clear beach while i am sitting on my bed, thinking about what its going to be next.
What is it that i want?
What is it that i really want?
These are the right questions that must be asked.
Anyone who is or had been in love might have felt this supreme ability wonder in the spaces; those pigments of imagination which are a function of imagination of one self. I always believe that things or feelings can be learned only through experiencing them, that too at first hand. Unless one cant have Empathy.
Empathy, really is the most important thing that we need to connect, to socialize.

The other day when i was watching ' the left foot', what i recall as the best scene enacted by Daniel Day Lewis was the one which Christy was invited to the paintings exhibition by Eileen and after the same they along with Peter, the fiancee of Eileen, which Christy later discovers in the party, were celebrating.
Christy, played by Lewis is a handicap and a talented painter. When Christy proposes Eileen in the party, she discloses her relationship with Peter. Knowing that Christy, revealed a plethora of melancholy in way which is so intense, so surreal and of the depth, which is highly affecting.
The lines like ..
" Con.....Con( Christy also has problem in speaking)
Con.....
Con..gratulations"

The word Con is the right expression to what he felt. He was conned. Then later takes it quite nicely and becomes a successful artist.
My point here to describe this scene here is to point out the importance of Empathy.
As we all are individuals who are unique from the core, no matter how similar we try to become on the outside. Therefore in a subliminal activity like love, its only the empathy on which we rely on. The kind of lifestyle we have assumed for ourselves its very difficult for us to comply with other small things.
When you travel and survey different people and their relationships. Their matter of communication, expression and involvement is a study of human behavior. And if its not rocket science, its not even less than that!
Now i have seen people, i have seen how beautifully they emerge out as bright colors out of complete chaos. Its because their roots were strong, they knew their identity, they knew from where they have come from.
10 years hence, people of my age and I might have a new ambiance around me. There will be changes, challenges and opportunities. But what is more important is how will we react to these changes?
To this point i must bring into the attention, the case of a person, about whom i had read.
The name of the person is Mahdeva, he was the son of a mother who abandoned the village she lived and came to the city, Bangalore. There she and her son live by a city hospital. Her mother used to work hard to feed her child. When Mahadeva was about 10 she died due to illness and a old man gave him a place to live.
Mahadeva used to do small errands for the hospital patients and earn a  livelihood just enough to survive.
One day Police official came with an unclaimed corpse and asked Mahadeva to bury it and for that he paid him Rs.200. He did the job with absolute dedication and that earned him the reputation of being an undertaker of unclaimed dead bodies. Cops used to pay him the same amount and he did it like a profession.
Soon he bought a horse pulled rickshaw. But then after some years the horse died and he got a autorickshaw.
No petrol pump used to charge him for the work he did. He got the picture of horse on the rickshaw and that became his brand of the business.
The ability to do a job no matter how is the nature of it, with absolute dedication and without supervision got him the trust of the neighborhood. And that is quality of a true professional.

So dont forsee in the exactness of where we might land in the future but what we can do is to appreciate the fact that life is how we perceive it. The more mature individuals we can become only if we learn to empathise and then the actions will in its own with become purer.
Restraint is not discipline. Discipline is like a string to which a kite is tied. You know the balance, but at the same time the primary purpose of string is not to pull the kite but to let it fly up in the air.
My teacher, on independence day many years back, came into the class and we all wished him for the day.
And he asked
Are you Independent?
It rang in my ears whole night that day.
Next day i got into a argument with him for the whole lecture. He just smiled most of the times.
Then he said-" Son, don't relish on something which you have not earned for yourself, it should be treated like a heritage instead. Also independence is real only when we are independent at mind. Unless you dont have the ability to think free, you are not independent really."
Its the judgement that defeats us.
If you think thats not the case then rewind and think of all the times where if you would have not have been conscious of barriers, you could have lived perhaps a bit more!
And that's not hedonism, that is freethinking.

A Novel Way to Empower......

Recall the role of Lord Shri Krishna in Mahabharata. Its the classic way to guide the changes while following an ideology which is righteous but at the same time never participating in the game as a player but as a thinker, adviser and most particularly a

Lotus Flower - Radiohead lyrics

I will shape myself into your pocket
Invisible
Do what you want
Do what you want

I will shrink and I will disappear
I will slip into the groove and cut me off
And cut me off

There's an empty space inside my heart
Where the weeds take root
And now I'll set you free
I'll set you free

There's an empty space inside my heart
Where the weeds take root
So now I'll set you free
I'll set you free

Slowly we unfurl
As lotus flowers
'Cos all I want is the moon upon a stick
Just to see what if
Just to see what is
I can't kick your habit
Just to fill your fast ballooning head
Listen to your heart

We will shrink and we'll be quiet as mice
And while the cat is away
Do what we want
Do what we want

There's an empty space inside my heart
Where the weeds take root
So now I'll set you free
I'll set you free

'Cos all I want is the moon upon a stick
Just to see what if
Just to see what is
The bird lights float into my room

Slowly we unfurl
As lotus flowers
'Cos all I want is the moon upon a stick
I dance around the pit
The darkness is beneath
I can't kick your habit
Just to feed your fast ballooning head
Listen to your heart

Its Only Superstition
Its Only Your Imagination...

Whats the first thought, which hits you when you a thousand stars on a clear night while laying on the moist beach sand with constant sound of sea waves?
Nothing.
Nothing and that emptiness is the realization of true happiness.
But happiness is true only when shared.
Whats the first thought, which hits you when you read a book and the incident mentioned in it is a total replica of your life?
Nothing.
Nothing and still you are happy. Maybe the book becomes your favorite but is it limited only to that.

Am i a loner?
Am i a hedonist?

I see an enshrine and i become a religious man, suddenly, just like that.
I see a baby and i become like one.

But who am i?
I roam around, walk on foot for long distances, travel on different vehicles, exploring every street, every face, every smile.

While boarding a train which was goes towards far-east, I met a sage, yes a real one. I spoke about the same to him. He said to me,son you are not asking the right questions.

Kahin to jana hai mujhe, bas kahin bhi nikal jaun, par pata nahi kahan.

Par abhi to bahot neend aa rahi hai, so jata hun.

100 % Cut off @DU and where are we heading...

When i read this morning newspaper, i came across a shocking revelation. Cut off lists for DU started and stopped at 100 percent for its courses in undergrads. When the admission for PG has already been closed and done with, i thought its only the graduates who are concerned more about their career Planning. It becomes too hard on people especially general category, to match up and fine tune with their interest area and economic viability simultaneously. It is a movie where the hero is genius enough to get into wherever he wants and still manages to excel in personal life.
We are have to appreciate the fact that every human being is unique and exists in reality. So the environment must not be composed of distrust, counterproductive and lethal for personal growth.  Comparisons are the worst in kind because they just don't suit the purpose anyways.

Things are changing too fast and students are bound to be more smart and skilled that they were at our times. So there isnt any yardstick to judge a person on just some numbers. Adding to that we also have to understand that all that glitters is not gold. To excel professionally one must understand that it will always be a popular perception that the grass will appear to be greener on the other side. The important thing is that when you grow mature, you get to know that it is your job which will take away the maximum chunk of your life so its important that you land up on the right one.

Just a couple of days ago i met a talented undergraduate aspirant and came to know how the cut off lists has risen up in some 6-7 years. And they are to be ever rising from here. Only a focused and passionate effort can bring colors but only a satisfied person can experience the greater good and happiness.

The day we stop apply stupid mathematical induction in our life,per-se:what is good for me must be good for you or i heard its good so it must be good for you; we will find that there will be more respect and love around us.

So for all fellow human beings work hard but party harder.

Life is a lesson, you learn it when you are through it.

How good would that be if you find that when you wake up, world around becomes the way you wanted it to be.
But then will it solve the purpose?

The fullfullment of greater goal?

As the time and circumstances changes, our priorities change. We begin to find more about our environment and in the process, about ourself.
'Life is what we want it to be.' A very thought provoking idea. In Human Resources domain we try to enchance capabilities of people while creating a set of events which can affect their functioning.
An HR person has to constantly think and appreciate the potential of right communication. So its of a kind of a way of life. Sometimes we want people we care about to see things the way we want it

little by little

Whenever i hear this song from Oasis, i just shake my head in confirmity of the thoughts expressed. I should quote the lyrics to substantiate what i am saying.

"We the people fight for our existence
We don't claim to be perfect
But we're free
We dream our dreams alone
With no resistance
Fading like the stars we wish to be

You know I didn't mean
What I just said
But my God woke up
On the wrong side of his bed
And it just don't matter now

Cos little by little
We gave you everything
You ever dreamed of
Little by little
The wheels of your life
Have slowly fallen off
Little by little
You have to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why
You're really here

True perfection has to be imperfect
I know that that sounds foolish but it's true
The day has come
And now you'll have to accept
The life inside your head we give to you

You know I didn't mean
What I just said
But my God woke up
On the wrong side of his bed
And it just don't matter now

Cos little by little
We gave you everything
You ever dreamed of
Little by little
The wheels of your life
Have slowly fallen off
Little by little
You have to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why
You're really here
Hey

Little by little
We gave you everything
You ever dreamed of
Little by little
The wheels of your life
Have slowly fallen off
Little by little
You had to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why
You're really here
Why am I really here?
Why am I really here?"

The topsy-turvy ride...

It has been a topsy-turvy ride till MHROD. Though my penchant for following my interests have brought along with them amazing experiences but they also did bring rigor and setbacks. During my Engineering itself i felt a missing element or for that matter a drive to look forward to my professional aspirations. It all started with renunciation of what was offered at the placements and persuing my interest in HR. My work as a training and placement officer reinforced my convictions in HR as my favorite destination. This year's preperation to get an institution for my formal education in the same made me realised the importance of being focused. Of all the interview experiences, which includes xlri-hr, i found the MHROD people were doing a much more precise selection.
The green ambience of DSE gave me a reminiscent of an ideal place for education much away from the hype & hoopla and the comparisions. I loved the way they respect merit and embrace the cradle of leadership while making the education pure, crystal , genuine and non-commercial.
I just cant wait to take a feel of RTL and the campus as a proud student of MHROD.

Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind-A movie

I m posting some dialogues that i liked personally, enjoy:

Clementine: You know me, I'm impulsive.
Joel: That's what I love about you.

..............................................................................................
Joel: I can't see anything that I don't like about you.
Clementine: But you will! But you will. You know, you will think of things. And I'll get bored with you and feel trapped because that's what happens with me.
Joel: Okay.
Clementine: [pauses] Okay.

Can we un-learn something..

Just finished this movie- Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. Theme explores a perceived troubled relationship and a fictitious  possibility of unlearning the past memories good and bad about it. Prima facie, the concept looks to be interesting and what is more intense is the fact, the more you romanticize with the idea of eliminating or being consciously forgetting certain events which are emotional, you tend to get more and more intertwined in them.
Such is the nature of human psyche. Most people get this trouble with answering the question which is the most important one.
ARE YOU SURE?
This cannot be answered in white and black. Of course the rational process of answering the same is weighing the pros and cons, but in personal relation context the answer must be influenced with instincts. Yes and this is some rationale attached to it.
So the way entire film is arranged is true art. Fragments of memories- incidences; some of them very intense and intimate. Those which can be understood only by experiencing, just like meditation. I can just describe how it feels but can never make you understand.
p.s.- You can just nod the head that you understand but in real you don't have a clue about it.

Raja Hindustani, Dr. Dang, Mr. India, Mugambo, Jindal Saab, Vijay Dinanath Chouhan.....

Happy thenku memsaab, Imaandar Policewala, Lalchi seth, wafadar dost, boodhi maa and natkhat choti behna... i dont know where all these cliched lines have gone. The problem with love- hate relation with all these things is that, when you are surrounded by them you are oximoronated by them but when they are gone you suddenly start to miss them. I think all those who live on a dream will be quite interested in stories and cinema. But there is a common problem with us. We just cant get enough. Very greedy people and believe in volumes. Given an option to have one candy of rs.20 and two candies of rs.10; we may go for 2 of them. It is a very common thing with kids if you watch them closely.
They prefer having 10 crayons of different colours than having 5 sketch pen untill and unless they dont see that the other kid is having a lot of fun with only 5 pens.

Even i did use this technique to manipulate my guileless little brother. But then he too got educated about this thing very soon. But those were different days and very hearty is the feeling to remember about those things. Earliar we used to fight over a cassette of Lucky Ali that my friend gave me. He strarted brawling about he having the same and another one. It was useless to have 2 cassettes of same kind when they play exactly the same music with one tape recorder to play at the same time!
Now when he called me yesterday that he was listening to Lucky Ali and about how he is missing home, we remembered that thing and had quite a laugh.

I remember how in the first year when mobile was a new hit with 1 paisa tarrif overnight and some of us really did some notorious activity with the thing. Prank calls at airtel, friends' friend and stuff.
“ Hello”
“ Main Jindal bol raha hoon mohra se”
“ Kya... kaun hai”
“ Kya aap andhe hai”
“ Abe kaun hai”
“ Tu cheez badi hai mast mast lala la la la la mast”

Another one..

“Hello”
“ Haan kaun hai itni raat ko”
“ Ji main airtel customer care se bol raha hun sir”
“ raat ko 2 baje”
“ Ji sir yeh hamari muft sewa hai, jisme hum grahkoon ko yaad dilate hain if they had urinated before going to bed.”
“ What?”
“ Yes sir it is important, otherwise you may wet the bed”
“ What the @#@#$#$#@”
“ Sir kya aap hamari sewaoin se santust hai?”

A dozen others but we did used a lot of cliched characters from bollywood to accomplish the task. My favorites were Raja Hindustani- 'U cum cum memsaab' and Jindal from Mohra.

Now when such films are not made which had left a strong impression on my mind, i wonder what will be the shape of future and the stereotypes. ;)

NOSTRADAMUS, NUKE BOMBS, TSUNAMIS, TORNADOS

Do you think the above four words have some relationship among them?
Yeah- Annihilation...
Its 41 degrees here in the afternoon. All the cooling mechanism seems to be failing and i just cant get naked because of usual constraints. I want to dive in a pool of cold water and want a sip of pinacolada by the stairs!
This is the moment of trush and i am an escapist. Yes i will not take it any more. I want a
'barf ka gola', actually a dozen of them. Oh, i dont care about the flavors. No time for such niceties. I want to spent next of my evening under the showers and sing lound the coldplay. Give me some rainful, but on the TV they say, its just getting started. I have the may and the freaking june. July will give some rain. But how to get accross these 60 fkn freaking days.
Nostradamus says that world will end in 2012 december. If that be true, even if by chance, lets say .001 percent then what am i gonna do? I dont belive mayan calendar and who cares if they dont make 2013th. Nothing helps, not even this gibberish is helping to keep my mind off.
Ok end of discussion i m going to play some pool and then aoe on coputer and then i ll buzz offf. What teh heck this bloddy keoyborad!

A date with Witch!

How can i be sure that am not willfully malignant of my own self?
No i cant be sure. Actually no one is really.. So i have make right choices when i dont have a clue about what is right and for that matter.. wrong. Umm hm ya ..no.. i mean yes. That right.
You know, forget about it. The questions that i must really ask my self should be like- Am i being an asshole. I am a ignorant narcissist who some times plays with the idea that he is gift to the mankind?
Yup.. pretty considerate of you to think about me on those lines.
See understand this.
Life is too short and i dont even know about reincarnation and its veracity. No one does. So i suggest you life this thing for once and dont think that you're going to invent a time machine to make this possible. At least i gave up on this idea a long long time ago. Watching Discovery is just vicarious fun and physics is good for nothing because it tells you why things happen but cant alter the sequence of them happening.
So should i go to Himalaya and live a renunciated life. I can get Shiva there and then thing about destroying; so two destructive souls meet up and also are equally interested in poison.
Its funny sometimes and i m sure you might have experienced this that we feel that why can we have normal lives when we live the most common live of all the masses. Its just we like some uniqueness to ourselfes. You dont believe it. I tell you what is not common.
The Royal Wedding's budget is 20 million pounds which is altogether much more than poor guy anna hazare is wanting to make Government accountable.
Gaddafi's private bodyguards consists of 40 most beautiful women on the earth.
And his son roams in a private jet around the world with 10 million dollars in cash for itinary.
This is what we call abnormal.. my friends. Got it the defintion of abnormal. So next time we feel that nothing is normal with us, kindly ponder on this data and you will be in great relief.
Stick to murphy's law and you will do just fine. And in the meanwhile i ll enjoy my date with a witch tonight and wanna know who is that. I will find out today when i do some haunted housing midnight with some buddies.
p.s.- ' i really miss that kiddo girl, i once met.'

Allegedly Stubborn

What it takes change something. Well change is not a thing that comes easily. Every one has certain inclinations or preferences according to which he/she is destined to become a unique identity. Change Management by far is the single most concept which has to be mastered and is taught with great importance in premier B- Schools.
While its easy to change systems and processes; its hard to change people. In the next upcoming blogs, i shall delve with much emphasis on the same. There are certain techniques, which when employed can administer a predetermined change in the behavior of the subject.
So follow this series closely!

EK jhamana guzar gaya....

College hostel mates... no matter how much is the interval of inactivity, its always fun to talk to them. When joy is on a roll the time gap condenses into seconds and it feels like that next day i have to go to college.
Seriously amidst all other complicated relationships this is the most simple and straightward relationship of all, with any hidden ajendas. Now that i have time and right mind set to get involved with my friends, i wont loose this opportunity. Here i go!

What goes around, comes around.

Its definitely quite naive to say sweeping statements like politics is a dirty game and all politicians are corrupt. I understand this. But when some sections of english media tries to patronize me by saying that one who say such statements cannot be the crusader for anti-corruption movement on account of he being not a metro person or he being unable to contemplate the fact that other learned people will use him to fulfill their own private interests then i am not amused.
The rural person in the context is Anna Hazare and the allegations are put up recently by Digvijay Singh. Karan Thapar conducts a very biased interview to malign the sanctity of the movement and thus filling the mind of a busy working common man with skepticism.
When Sonia Gandhi has already made it clear that she supports Lokpal Bill then
why Kapil Sibal and Diggy has problems with it. Is this a case of poor leadership or a well thought political drama. What ever it is, let this be very clear that if now Government still thinks that people will be easily fooled then they are inviting a big trouble.
Anna had candidly said the right thing- if he would have continued for the fasting for 3 more days the Government would have already been in soup. So Sonia ji stop giving 'supari' to your unproductive blabber mouths to play these games.

Vital Signs

Lately India has faced issues related to Governance wherein the state was constantly reprimanded by legislature for discordant policies adopted by the Govt. in various matters.
Spectrum allocation is one such issue. Telecom Ministry has been constantly misusing the power to sell highly profitable bands to corporate powerhouses on unrevised rates over the years. The argument they use is very interesting. They say its for growth of sector for widespread usage of the technology.
So its not surprising when Kapil Sibal states that there has been no loss to the state in the recent alleged scam while SC thinks otherwise.
Lets quickly get to the crux of the matter without drawing conclusions. Firstly India being a diverse state with highly varied stakeholders any policy adopted cannot be completely right or completely wrong. Reservation, naxalism, privatisation issues can be stated in the support.
Secondly, Political will to make changes is very low owing to centralised decision making which is what is followed in practical in our bureaucracy. So this is the reason why no one gives a shit what happens in nagaland or for that matter anything that doesnt affect masses on a whole.
Thus i believe we cant have a indian version of jasmine revolution here.

Hum aah bhi bharte hain to ho jaate hain badnaam, aur wo katl bhi karte hain to charcha nahi hota...........

Its all about passing the buck when it comes to take action. And when something is done by an honest person which is just over the line, system reminds him to be morally correct and upright. So when he looks all over to remind them how the things were started in the first place they don't even care to discuss the same. This is gist of the matter in case of present deadlock over political activism in our country.
We are manipulated this way; our actions are controlled and so do our thoughts. Its time that we grow over those wretched things. Its a shame when we see the youth to be engulfed in a fearful environment wherein he or she just tries to hang on whether its approaching life or career.
We must recall what Swami Vivekanand said- Be fearless- the Youth of the Nation.

hazare

Haraze's movement to counter corruption in inform of actualization of Lokpal bill with more common people representation has now become more of peoples' movement. Delhi's Jantar Mantar has become a center for mass level initiative for change. At this point it becomes important to define the environment which is responsible for such a thing to occur.
2011 has witnessed a series of allegations on  Govt. ranging for Adarsh society scam to Black money scam. Mass movements galore in middle east wherein people resisted inadequacy on the part of administration to address governance issues.Japan's tsunami and its efforts thereafter to tackle the crisis; their team work is important to mention in this context. A group can bring about a change under a proper leadership. People can manage changes which are important for functioning of a system.
Hazare is a apt leader to lead a mass example. His style of leadership is to lead-by-example. He has a squeaky clean image and is highly motivated. His efforts for RTI act cannot be ignored. He has a character and is dogged in his efforts.
On the contrary we have our PM and i am alleging him as a weak leader but one thing is for sure. That he simply lacks courage to initiate a change. He had chances to do exactly that but just let it slip. His press conference can be stated as a example here wherein he just passed on the buck to other bureaucrats and explicitly stated his inability to take necessary action. In his age and career he has nothing to loose if he becomes a change agent and become a whistle blower. He had a chance to earn a reputation for himself. But its never too late, so if he gets to read this, may its the time.

Delhi University

I check results for DU results for gd pi tonight for its HR program casually; especially owing to just 30 seats for all india recruitments and high cut offs. Plus a fees of just 18000 for 2 years for MBA is hard to find with such a reputation.
So i check the merit list and got info that some 150 students are called for counselling.
To my disbelievement i cant imagine how i felt when i saw my name in top 30. Euphoria- party time- hey GOD thanks man, thanks to all my well wishers.
Muuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaaahhhhh!

amores perrros

Cricket frenzies, dry humour, constant reassurances, patriotic zeal, confusing ideas.. and i dont know in what direction is this entire thing going on. What will i do if that does not happen. Will every thing be same as it always was. Or the absurd occurrences will defy the objectives?
Its this mediocrity and wayward thoughts that sucks every drop of....

rambharose

Its the apt way to put the situation. Now that all is done what is was in my capacity at the given situation and environment; its futile to think on the outcomes even though its a matter of huge importance.
Is it that necessary... the result? Well what can i say. Some things when are solicited passionately your actions and energy gets in line with what ever is the method to achieve that.
It is beyond doubt that how much i have craved for this milestone. So it wont be such a bad exercise to do a dress rehearsal on the outcomes.
Outcome 1; In favour- I will go mad for many days and the result would be a milestone indeed as my approach and confidence will take a leap.

Outcome 2; Not in favour- I would wriggle in pain for days, not wanting to do anything for a while. Crushed for sometime, i would be like a nomad and live in nonchalance for a month. Of course life had to be started afresh.

The haves and havenots

I start with a very formal mode with these lines today- It gives me immence pleasure to write this note, but then i stop, sit and ponder for a while. Its been a immence journey which is still a roller coster ride. Its good to surprise people and more importantly self; its a form of expression too. We always fall in to two categories when we run after a goal- The haves and havenots, but if the process is enlived with passion these two categoies dissolves into oblivion.
I wake with lots of ideas in my mind and next two years will be important in terms of how i develop self and also the environment. My perspectives will fall in line within the zone of accomplishments. After every night comes a day. So i just have to be my self and not buckle under the expections of self.
It will be exciting to know what the future events will bring to light  but every thing has a right time and method to sort out itself.

IPO of Coal India Limited

Coal India limited is the world’s largest Coal miner with revenue exceeding $10.3 billion US. It was formerly owned entirely by the Government of India, under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal. It is involved in coal mining and production industry.  GoI is now divesting 10 percent of its equity through the public issue of shares. Experts were quite optimistic about the success of the IPO; CARE( Credit Rating and Analysis graded the IPO with 5 out of 5 and the same was reflected in the results when the CIL IPO got subscribed more than 15 times after huge response from investors.

What is the reason for the huge success of CIL IPO and why it is called mother of all IPOs? CIL contributes to around 82% of coal production in India. The balance 18% is
produced mainly for captive consumption by manufacturing/power companies. Thus
practically, CIL holds the monopoly in traded coal available domestically.
It has a highly favorable demand supply situation in the domestic coal industry.

Also CILs strong financial position gives it immense financial flexibility to fund its on-going and planned expansion projects. Moreover, CIL is one of the lowest cost producers giving it a pricing edge over imported coal. The grading also factors experienced management and impressive track record of operations. It can be foreseen that the demand for the domestic coal industry will be mainly driven by the power generation companies. Increasing domestic steel and cement capacities are also likely to further support the domestic coal demand. Hence the off take related risks for CIL
are negligible.

Moreover there are certain other factors that make its IPO a hit. The company is responsible for the entire coal mining sector and it operates along with a number of subsidiaries. The company has an experienced senior management team with many of the members serving the company or its subsidiaries for more than 30 years. The company has a sound corporate governance system, in place. It is practically a debt free company and has healthy profit margins.
However, the prices of coal, being a commodity, are volatile in nature. Hence the profit margins too are volatile for the company. Nevertheless, on account of low operating cost and strong reserves built by the company, the financial soundness is high. Further the shift of the company to a more market linked pricing mechanism is expected to improve its profitability.

It facilitates continuous labor productivity due to the use of technology, and high share of production from open cast mines. Deregulated coal pricing regime gives them the power to price their coal along with other factors like favorable demand – supply, and cost competitiveness.

However, CIL’s operations are affected to some extent by socio-enviromental concerns.
Changes in pricing regulations, delays in obtaining clearances from the forest department
and delay in receipt of regulatory approvals continue to pose a threat to the company’s
operations. An Investors ethical dilemma is whether to support a carbon pumping system or to safeguard more climate friendly energy suppliers. While such boundaries of investment cannot be fixed still it’s a debatable issue.

How empowerment of women must be legally enforced

Empowerment refers to enhancement of capabilities of a group or individual in social, economical, political and spiritual spheres so as to develop their decision making ability (in individual or collective context), ability to form a positive self image by overcoming stigma and the ability to have a discreet thinking about what is wrong or right. Women in our society have been marginalized for a long time due to many reasons as cultural dogmas, religious construct, male dominancy and discrimination. The primary reason is the entrenchment of negative learning over a long period of time. Also such behavior is reinforced when no administrative body disapproves of it.
The solution lies in the creation of an environment through positive economic and social policies for full development of women to enable them to realize their full potential. This can be done by first framing laws through our democratic structure; second, by outlining an action plan and third the establishment for a strong feedback mechanism which ensures if empowerment measures in India are comparable to global standards and measure the discrepancy.
At the initiative of and with the full participation of all stakeholders including community and religious leaders, laws can be made with the aim to encourage changes in personal laws such as those related to marriage, divorce, maintenance and guardianship so as to eliminate discrimination against women. The evolution of property rights in a patriarchal system has contributed to the subordinate status of women. Women’s equality in power sharing and active participation in decision making, including decision making in political process at all levels will be ensured for the achievement of the goals of empowerment. Laws can be made to introduce positive discrimination to ensure participation of women at every level, including the legislative, executive, judicial, corporate, statutory bodies, as also the advisory Commissions, Committees, Boards, and Trusts etc. Women–friendly personnel policies will also be drawn up to encourage women to participate effectively in the developmental process. This includes more safety for night shift workers in textile mills and strict laws to counter women harassment at work places.
In order to enhance women’s access to credit for consumption and production, the establishment of new and strengthening of existing micro-credit mechanisms and micro-finance institution can be undertaken so that the outreach of credit is enhanced. In view of the critical role of women in the agriculture and allied sectors, as producers, concentrated efforts can be made to ensure that benefits of training, extension and various programmes will reach them in proportion to their numbers. Special measures can be taken to eliminate discrimination, universalize education, eradicate illiteracy, create a gender-sensitive educational system, increase enrolment and retention rates of girls and improve the quality of education to facilitate life-long learning as well as development of occupation/vocation/technical skills by women. Reducing the gender gap in secondary and higher education should be a focus area. Gender sensitive curricula should be developed at all levels of educational system in order to address sex stereotyping as one of the causes of gender discrimination.
Media can be used to portray images consistent with human dignity of girls and women. Efforts should be made to regulate media, specifically to remove demeaning, degrading and negative conventional stereotypical images of women and violence against women. The media would be encouraged to develop codes of conduct, professional guidelines and other self regulatory mechanisms to remove gender stereotypes and promote balanced portrayal.
While institutions at the district level can be strengthened, at the grass-roots, women will be helped by Government through its programmes to organize and strengthen into Self-Help Groups (SHGs) at the Anganwadi/Village/Town level. These societies will bring about synergistic implementation of all the social and economic development programmes by drawing resources made available through Government and Non-Government channels, including banks and financial institutions and by establishing a close Interface with the Panchayats/ Municipalities.
Implementation of international obligations/commitments in all sectors on empowerment of women such as the Convention on All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and other such instruments will help to make reforms more accountable. International, regional and sub-regional cooperation towards the empowerment of women should be encouraged through sharing of experiences, exchange of ideas and technology, networking with institutions and organizations and through bilateral and multi-lateral partnerships.

The Final Push

Hang on there dude, this is what you were waiting for, this is the moment of the ultimate truth. This is the time to realize the goal what you have been persevering. As rightly said- the higher the goal, greater is the sacrifice.
You have been practically putting every thing on stake for this thing to happen. Now you are closer to that dream. Show the character of Ram, remember that stoic smile on his face. Just be that and i know you will be there.
Dharma and Karma both coincides at the point which your utmost fidelity stays. The point where body meets soul can only be something higher, much higher that what is perceived to be real.
This is time to stay-put and everything must be on the road ahead.
'Be fearless and believe in the self'.

"Talking Bird"

Oh, my talking bird
Though you know so few words
They're on infinite repeat
Like your brain can't keep up with your beak.

And you're kept in an open cage
So you're free to leave or stay.
Sometimes you get confused
Like there's a hint I am trying to give you.

The longer you think, the less you know what to do.

It's hard to see your way out
When you live in a house in a house
Cause you don't realize
That the windows were open the whole time.

Oh, my talking bird
Though your feathers are tattered and furled
I'll love you all your days
Till the breath leaves your delicate face.

It's all here for you as long as your choose to stay.
It's all here for you as long as you don't fly away.

"The New Year"

So this is the new year.
And i don't feel any different.
The clanking of crystal
Explosions off in the distance (in the distance).

So this is the new year
And I have no resolutions
For self assigned penance
For problems with easy solutions

So everybody put your best suit or dress on
Let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
Lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
As thirty dialogs bleed into one

I wish the world was flat like the old days
Then i could travel just by folding a map
No more airplanes, or speed trains, or freeways
There'd be no distance that could hold us back.

So this is the new year [x4]

The Greater Good

" Its for your own good"
When i hear this all i could visualize a voice inside me 'don't patronize me'.

So how is like listening the track- 'forget it' from Breaking Benjamin. I can say it feels like drowning, all that surrounds me is water and i am going within. I met a little doll everyday, she is around 8,i guess but when after the walk i stall near a shop for cold drink, i see her waiting with other kids for her school bus.
There is a thing between us we never break the schedule even by a minute. So comes to shop for her usual fruit candy.
Today morning
" Hi miss mango candy!"
"I m ..not...mango candy...i m chia"
"Chia.. what is that"
" Its .... my name..thumbs up buoy..."
The way she said that make me choke with the laughter and thumps up. She was pretty magic!
" Well i m known as kaiser"
" Whats..that ..sounds like .. south indian"
"Hell no! thats japanese chiaaaa"
" Hmmm.. anyways my mom says not to talk to strangers"
" She is right.. but dont worry i am not going to put you in a bag!"
"You dont look like one, do you?"
"Well so far, so good. Never did that before so you can count  me"
" Well you never know. these days"
" Ya sure you never really know"
So we paused there, i finished up my thing and she was busy with the candy, rolling her head may be she was recalling some song  or something else but her carelessness and freedom just intrigued me. So i waived adieu to her and was walking on my way back.
After some time i realized she was coming at my side. So i stopped. She handed one of her candy to me and said - see ya and ran back to her stop.

After jogging a bit and reached my pocket for the candy. I just like some automated machine got rid of its wafer and put it in my mouth. I wasn't expecting something great as in taste. At the same time the track that played was - 'Little by little i got everything i dreamed of' by Oasis. And i can say that candy was really very sweet!

Black Swan

Nail biting, thrilling and absolute Morphine!!!!

I have been obsessed by the conflicts of mind but this is something amazing. A ballet dancer tiptoeing to the perfection and in turn gets haunted by her own control. Beautiful Natalie Portman had to portray the white swan who is a virgin trapped in the body of a swan and can only be freed by true love. She gets it in the Prince but her jealous twin, the black swan seduced him away. Heartbroken white swan finds freedom only in form of a tragic end.
Natalie perfect cast for white swan- fragile, beautiful, affected, sensitive and pure. But the question is to embody the black swan- Lustful, wicked, cunning, charming and beautiful. How can a ballet dancer do the both in the same act one after another is a matter of life and death for 'nina' who has given every thing to dancing and is now turning 28 so it has to be a final act. Story grips even a non artlover too and is heaven for the people on the other side.

yuppieeeeee

Its ironical how events unfold right in front of us in quick succession. Opportunity outta Adversity. Last year when the options got slimmer every day and this year they seems like abound. Hard work pays off and so do knowledge, not a drop gets lost and everything falls within the the periphery of hope. So help me god to get the trailer going, if my plant has to be nourished by rocky efforts, so be it. But its kinda weird too, to realize the tranquility. I anticipated zaniness but the effect is of a gratified happiness.
Whatever it is this feeling is a welcome guest and i will celebrate it the same way, coyly.
Lets get the juggernaut start, all the way!

pal,hum rahe na rahe yaad..

This song is dedicated to single song which works for me as a shot of something huge that makes me to stop and just get lost into it. K.K. is one single dude who has sung this song for which he must be proud forever. Ingenious, pure like crystal mmmmmuaaaaaaaahh... The rise and fall of tempo is just out of world. As i am listening to this its hypnotizing me all back and forth like a pendulum onto the memory lane. If this had to be produced with KK's voice so be it but you know what when this life is small so small that all now that has happened and those moments when you see a rainbow in the night; thats love mates, thats love.
Little things and events makes you exited. In one moment you glare like a shooting star, next moment you are the white dwarf. Thats physics, its inevitable but its the speed with which things happen so quickly. Now i had such times, now there are only memories; I am not repenting or in remorse but instead i am gratified that even for some days, i witnessed genuine happiness, feelings...

'Ane wali subah jane kaise hogi' well thats hope. Thats being optimistic, haah its like hoping that it should rain hard tommorow so that the schools would be closed. But its kinda needed to live peacefully. So i play this heaven thing one more time. Pal...yaad ayenge yeh pal.....

fyki....

Its a bit noteworthy of how do we discredit small things."A gentleman must be capable of appreciating things like sugar too!" - i mean thats the advice i would always remember not because my grandmother said it so but because it relaxes me. She sure was a wonderful woman and i don't know why i am speaking about her today but that's the way i am. All i trust are my whims. And that what i like about my grandma because she being a traditionalist was surprisingly a experimentalist. I remember whenever i ate packed foods like maggi or soup, she although curses them for being not healthy but at the same time never missed a chance to have a bite from my plate! She wore my caps and goggles, whenever i asked her if should would like to try them.

There were times when she would urge me to listen her mythological stories at bedtime and i would act like i am already asleep. There were also times when i used to beg her for telling me the stories and she would act as if she is asleep. Funny as hell. For a guy like me who is in entertainment for gratification and intellectual stimulation; she had a mastery of telling the same stories night after night with unique presentation and humor every time. Goddamn she was charming! Its not easy to entertain  a teenager with same rhetorical mythological stories everyday.Every night i would be tricked by her no matter how hard i tried.

Almost 90% of talks we had were jokes, imitation of each other and laughs. 5% was cursing each other for being a jerk. 3% were arguments for TV and 2% was her advice to me.
In that 2% of talks she would be very serious and tell me to remember certain things after she's dead. She being not with me was an unacceptable truth to me. I knew that she being old enough is getting weak but i would ignore every-time i thought about it. It was like not-a-option to me. So i never cried when she was gone; everyone else did and may or may not have made opinions about me. But it doesn't matter.

And now when some salt or sugar falls somewhere i feel somewhere that i must appreciate it and that's where is my grandma and i crave to listen her calling me a gentleman or a hand on my head atleast....

Cloud no. 9

Clue number one was when you knocked on my door.
Clue number two was the look that you wore.
And that's when I knew, it was a pretty good sign,
That something was wrong up on cloud number nine

Well it's along way up and we won't come down tonight
Well it may be wrong but baby it sure feels right

And the moon is out and the stars are bright
And whatever comes is gonna be alright
'Cause tonight you will be mine - up on cloud number nine
And there ain't no place that I'd rather be
And we can't go back but you're here with me
Yeah, the weather is really fine - up on cloud number nine

Now he hurt you, and you hurt me
And that wasn't the way it was supposed to be
So, baby tonight let's leave the world behind
And spend some time up on cloud number nine

Well it's along way up and we won't come down tonight
Well it may be wrong but baby it sure feels right

Well we won't come down tonight
Ya we won't come down tonight
No we won't come down tonight

And the moon is out and the stars are bright
And whatever comes is gonna be alright
'Cause tonight you will be mine - up on cloud number nine
And there ain't no place that I'd rather be
And we can't go back but you're here with me
Yeah, the weather is really fine - up on cloud number nine

We can watch the world go by - up on cloud number nine...

dont u frgt abt me baby

They say love is just a game
They say time can heal the pain
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose
And I guess it's just a fool
I keep holding on to you

I told you once you were the one
You know that I'd die for you
Although it hurts to see you go
Oh this time you should know
I won't try to stop you

Don't you forget about me baby?

Don't you forget about me now?
Some day you'll turn around and ask me, why did I let you go?

So you try to fake a smile
You don't wanna break my heart
I can see that you're afraid
But baby it's too late
'cause I'm already dying

Don't you forget about me baby?
Don't you forget about me now?
Some day you'll turn around and ask me, why did I let you go?

Whereever I go I don't forget about you
Whereever you go don't you forget about me.

stay-insomnaic

I know it's late and you're tired
And we'd been talking for hours here
You don't have to tell me

I see that look in your eyes
And I know soon we'll say our goodbyes oh yeah
I feel it coming

And I hear you take a deep breath
And my hands are starting to sweat
I don't want you to
I don't want you to leave yeah

Stay here tonight, stay here tonight
'cause when you're around me everything's right, don't go
Oh, don't leave me alone
Stay here tonight, stay here tonight
I wanna hold you in my arms show you what that's like, don't go
I need you, I need you

You grab your coat and I'm dying
But I know you're still deciding, yeah
'cause nobody's moving
Time stops and everything's quiet
I'm hanging on for my life and you
You don't even see it

And then you come in closer
And baby it's not over
Till I hear you say, till I hear you say
Goodnight oh yeah

Stay here tonight, stay here tonight
'cause when you're around me everything's right, don't go
Oh, don't leave me alone
Stay here tonight, stay here tonight
I wanna hold you in my arms show you what that's like, don't go
I need you, I need you

Something about you saves me
Something about you makes me feel like I'm alive

Stay here tonight, stay here tonight
'cause when you're around me everything's right, don't go
Don't leave me alone

Stay here tonight, stay here tonight
'cause when you're around me everything's right, don't go
Oh, don't leave me alone
Stay here tonight, stay here tonight
I wanna hold you in my arms show you what that's like, don't go
I need you, I need you

Stay with me tonight, I need you, Stay with me tonight, I need you
